St Mary's Hospital, Fund Development Director

Organizes and implements a comprehensive fundraising program that promotes SSM’s goals of growth as a regional provider, exceptional patient satisfaction, quality, safety, exceptional employee and physician commitment. Manages the Foundation by working with the Hospital Presidents, Board members, physicians, and community leaders. Manages the Auxiliary. Responsibilities include strategic and financial planning, program development and implementation, fundraising activities and legal compliance.


  • Guides foundation development efforts by working with key stakeholders to establish foundation goals based on hospital’s objectives, planning strategic direction of customized and comprehensive fund-raising plans including oversight and successful achievement of goals for annual giving program, major and planned giving, special events and capital campaigns.
  • Formulates foundation policies, procedures and programs including legal arrangements for fund transfers.
  • Identifies potential contributors by researching support given to other organizations, and establishing personal networks.
  • Leads, monitors, and evaluates Board members, volunteers, administrative staff, medical staff, and employees in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship of all prospects.
  • Solicits funds and pledges by preparing promotional literature and presentations, answering inquiries, making personal visits, speeches, and promotions, organizing special campaigns and events.
  • Maintains communication regarding foundation status by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, and frequently communicating progress to leadership.
  • Collaborates with the directors of the Auxiliary programs and Guest Relations department to develop plans, policies, and procedures which govern the work and structure of the programs.
  • Leads and directs efforts to distribute charitable contributions to qualified community and area organizations and causes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree


  • Five years’ experience in fund raising/development, volunteer management, nonprofit management or outside sales/marketing field with direct customer contact
