Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director - Clinical Staff Services, the Clinical Staff Specialist/Educator will be responsible for developing, conducting, coordinating, and implementing system-wide clinical staff education, competency standards, metrics monitoring and leadership development. This includes defining and implementing standards of care and quality assurance, as well as the development and review of clinical policy and procedures. The objective is to foster a culture of clinical and healthcare professional growth, advancement, patient safety, standardization, quality assurance, and efficiency. The Clinical Staff Specialist/Educator is jointly responsible with management for the competency, skill assessment, patient safety and standardized care for their assigned region.

Responsibilities:

1. Provides leadership to the clinical operations team on all clinical related issues to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

2. Participates in the clinical reengineering projects offering expertise in the design and implementation of both operational and medical management projects including clinical staffing redesign.

3. Participates in and oversees the development of the training provided to clinical staff, both licensed and unlicensed.

4. Collaborates with management in planning, directing and monitoring quality management activities.

5. Oversees and participates in the orientation and credentialing for the new staff.

6. Oversees and participates in the skills and competency assessment for all clinical services staff.

7. In coordination with the Office of Medical Affairs, establishes best evidence-based clinical practices along with the standards and policies that support these practices.

8. Provides clinical expertise to Dean Medical Group when questions of scope of practice or staff competency arise.

9. Shared oversight of clinical regulations, licensing and scope of practice.

10. Organizes and coordinates community high school, technical college and university educational and mentoring opportunities for students interested or enrolled in health care related programs.

11. Represents the Dean Medical Group face of clinical work in the community.

12. Assists in the preparation and oversight of the budget as it relates to clinical staff services.

13. Is an active participant/chair of committees and task forces as they relate to clinical services.

14. Facilitates and manages projects/responsibilities as assigned by the Director – Clinical Staff Services.

15. Monitors metrics associated with standardized practices as well as national benchmarks and follows up with staff/managers as appropriate.

16. Attends monthly staff meetings for region as appropriate.

17. Assists with assuring optimal staff performance by performing periodic and regular skills assessment.

18. Develops, implements and expands learning opportunities and skill levels for staff.

19. Develops research based standards and conducts research projects.

20. Participates in various clinical and corporate committees.

21. Performs other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

1. Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field with 5 years of nursing experience in a hospital or clinic setting OR an Associate degree in nursing or related field with 10 years of nursing experience in a hospital or clinic setting.

2. State licensure as a Registered Nurse.

3. Knowledge regarding principles of nursing practice and the nursing process, theory and education.

4. Previous experience or education in performance and development of clinical competency testing, orientation and nursing skills development.

5. Thorough knowledge of the principles of adult education and learning strategies.

6. Ability to develop, implement and evaluate training models and curriculums.

7. Experience in project management.

8. Professional demeanor and sound public speaking capabilities.

9. Ability to understand and manipulate data, metrics and reports pertaining to clinical care performance and outcomes.

10. Ability to travel to various Dean Clinic locations/regions.

Preferred:

1. Experience in a leadership role, preferably in nursing from a hospital or clinic setting.

2. Previous experience in the development of nursing policies/procedures.

3. Previous experience with quality improvement principles.

4. Previous adult education experience.

5. Skilled in the use of Microsoft products such as Word and Excel.

6. Masters in Nursing Education or related field
